Aged Care Furniture
Providing Comfort, Dignity, and Joy
Furnishing aged care facilities goes beyond filling spaces with chairs, tables, and new beds. It involves putting in intentional efforts to create environments that promote comfort, joy, and independence for aged ones.
With over three decades spent in the commercial furniture industry, our eyes have been opened to this reality.
We take great delight in our deep-seated mission of channeling our expertise towards providing aged care furniture solutions that truly feel like home.
The Importance of Thoughtful Aged Care Furniture Design
It goes without saying that our needs and abilities evolve as we grow older. As the saying goes, change is constant. This is why it is critical to have furniture that adapts to these changes.
Can you picture a situation where your lovely grandmother who has spent a lifetime caring for her family and putting them first now has to deal with the challenges of elderly living? She is less mobile now and has other difficulties associated with elderly living.
How would you want her to be surrounded? Certainly, you would want her to get the very best comfort available. When it comes to furniture, you would want something that accommodates her physical limitations and generally helps her feel relaxed.
We have the same thoughts as you at Atama Furniture. If there is one core belief we hold, it is that every older adult deserves to live in an environment where their individuality is celebrated; an environment where they are the subject of honour, not apathy.
It is proven knowledge that people age in different ways. Some older people may experience cognitive impairments. These impairments may require having furniture that reduces risk and caters to their safety. Others may have to cope with sensory changes; perhaps limited vision or hearing. This can affect how they connect with their surroundings. And then there are others who may experience mobility challenges, finding it difficult to use furniture designed for agile people.
We share these concerns too. Our shared empathy drives us to create exceptional aged care furniture that appeals to the unique needs and challenges faced by our elders. Our team of designers and ergonomic experts carefully consider these factors when crafting our aged-care furniture.
In recent times, there have been widespread demands for thoughtful aged-care furniture designs. To call a furniture design thoughtful in this context, it must seamlessly integrate into their daily lives.
Remember the scenario of your grandmother we made you picture earlier? Now, imagine she wants to reach for her belongings on a bedside table. Except that, this time, her chair has a carefully engineered lift mechanism that facilitates her motion. Doesn’t that reassure you?
Apart from functionality, the psychological well-being of older adults is just as important as their physical comfort. Our furniture designs aim to create a homelike environment, where residents feel a sense of familiarity and belonging. We incorporate warm colors, soft textures, and inviting shapes to create an emotionally secure atmosphere.
We also prioritize safety in our furniture designs. We implement features like rounded edges, and stable bases, among others, to reduce the risk of accidents or injuries.
Aging is a natural and beautiful process that deserves utmost care and respect. And we shall continue to implement innovative furniture designs that enhance the overall well-being of older people.
Our Works Speak for Us
As a Western Australian-owned and operated business, we are immensely proud to have had the privilege of furnishing hundreds of aged care facilities across the country. Each of these projects speak to the reputation we have built and the trust our clients have placed in us.

Another satisfied client, Juniper Hayloft, a two-level residential aged care facility with 100 beds, was completed in 2018.

Craigcare Ascot Waters, a five-level residential aged care facility with 164 beds, was completed in 2020. This facility offers a range of family-oriented spaces, including comfortable lounge and sitting areas, spacious dining rooms, intimate private dining rooms, alfresco seating areas, an onsite cafe, and a spacious theatre room. Atama Furniture collaborated closely with the client, providing in-house colour consultations for all furniture and artwork throughout the facility, ensuring a cohesive and inviting atmosphere for residents and their families.
Located in Gosnells, Amaroo Village Buckley Caring Centre is a 128-bed residential aged care facility that underwent a significant redevelopment in 2018. The expansion included the addition of Tuart and Wandoo houses, which provided an extra 74 beds across two levels. An interior designer approached Atama Furniture, allowing them to supply purpose-built furniture throughout the facility, including the reception area, dining rooms, activity spaces, outdoor alfresco living areas, library, sitting spaces, and residential rooms.
Successful client stories like this encourage us to deliver even more impact at Atama Furniture. When you work with us, we don’t just see you as another business client. Instead, it is an opportunity to improve the quality of life for our elders and honour their life’s journey.
Why Choose Atama Furniture for Your Aged Care Facility?
Furnishing an aged care facility revolves around creating a nurturing environment that helps residents live better. This is why our design philosophy is woven around five core principles – comfort, safety, independence, dignity, and social engagement.
Comfort is essential when it comes to aged care furniture. Older people naturally spend extended periods seated or resting. To enhance their comfort, our chairs, couches, and recliners are designed with ample cushioning and ergonomic support. Trust us, we factor in even the minutest detail to ensure our furniture reduces fatigue and promotes proper body alignment.
The best aged care furniture, apart from providing comfort, assures safety. As such, safety forms a critical part of our core design principles at Atama Furniture. Our pieces of furniture are created with anti-slip surfaces and rounded edges to minimize the risk of falls and injuries – a common concern in aged care facilities.
Aged ones were once young and agile. They could conduct their activities without needing help. Despite their old age and the loss of that agility, they don't have to lose their complete sense of independence and dignity.
Through our unique range of furniture solutions, we strive to give these older adults the ability to perform daily activities with confidence and ease. Let's consider our dining room sets for instance. They feature chairs with armrests that allow residents to comfortably enjoy meals without relying on assistance. This design element may seem simple but it is a thoughtful way to offer them a sense of autonomy.
One reason some of our elderly dread care facilities is because they feel they would live in isolation. Of course, loneliness can have a deep impact on the well-being of older adults. Not being able to share your happiness or sorrows with anyone can make anyone feel lonely.
We understand this reality and believe that thoughtfully designed communal spaces can ensure social connections and engagement - critical components for maintaining mental and emotional health.
Our living room furniture arrangements are carefully curated to encourage conversations. The seating options are cozy as well, inviting residents to gather and share stories. Of course, we work in accordance with the needs and requirements of our clients. But our overall aim is to provide pieces of furniture that provide comfort and also help these aged ones enjoy the company of others.
Talking about enjoying the company of others, a beautifully appointed lounge area can encourage residents to engage in activities together or just enjoy a cup of tea with friends. It is these little moments of connection that can make a world of difference in an aged care setting.
